Technical and specification support for flat roof refurbishment
A contractor's view of the roof and its details, before your specification goes out or while you are reviewing one. Building surveyors, roofing consultants, architects and quantity surveyors get plain technical answers from the people who would lay the roof.

Support
What we can help with
Questions about one roof or one detail are as welcome as a whole project:
- Evidence from the roof itself, gathered on a survey and weighed against the four routes, from retaining the roof to replacing it.
- The refurbishment route and the reason for it, argued from what the build-up shows rather than from what we prefer to install.
- Waterproofing options in the systems we install: torch-on felt, the reinforced bituminous membrane (RBM), first, then the liquid-applied system where flame or complex detail rules felt out.
- Build-ups and details at upstands, outlets, rooflights and thresholds, where most flat roofs fail first.
- Budget prices for cost plans and feasibility work, with the assumptions behind them written down.
- A buildability read of a draft specification, marking what will be hard to achieve on the roof as written.
Boundaries
The specification stays yours
What we offer is the view of the contractor who would carry the work out: what goes together well on site, where a junction is likely to leak, what a detail asks of the people laying it. We do not design the roof, we do no structural calculations, and nothing we say replaces the judgement of the consultant who signs the specification. Where a question needs a designer or an engineer, we say so plainly.
Documents
System documentation
The liquid-applied system we install is HYDRONYLON. Its European Technical Assessment, its declarations of performance and its technical and safety data sheets are all kept on the downloads page of the system's British distributor.
We do not reproduce those documents on this site, so a specification always cites the current issue rather than a copy that has gone out of date. What we can add is how the documents translate to a particular roof once someone has looked at it.
Delivery
When the project moves to delivery
Once your specification is out, we price the flat roofing package from it, whether it comes through the main contractor or directly from the client. How that works, from the tender documents to the handover file, is set out for main contractors.
For the facts a procurement team checks before anyone is appointed, the certificate we hold is listed, number and expiry included, on our accreditations page, and the company's registered details sit in the footer of every page.
Large commercial and industrial projects can sit anywhere across Greater London and out to the edges of the South East, with work further away taken on by arrangement.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Will you comment on a specification that is not out to tender yet?
Yes. Send the draft or the sections in question and we will say what builds as written, which details are likely to give trouble on the roof, and what we would ask about at tender. Reading documents and giving that view costs nothing, and nothing in it commits you to us.
Do you favour one system over another?
No. The route a roof takes follows what the evidence shows about the build-up underneath, whether that ends in retaining, repairing, re-covering or replacing it. Where re-covering is right, torch-on felt and the liquid-applied system each have roofs they suit and roofs they do not, and we say which and why.
Can you join a site visit or a joint inspection?
Yes. We can meet you on the roof, walk the details with you and give you our view there and then. Where testing and a written condition survey are wanted as well, the fee for that is agreed before the visit.
Where do the system documents come from?
Its British distributor publishes them on its own downloads page. We link to that page rather than keep copies, so what you read is always the current issue.
A roof or a specification to talk through?
Describe the roof and what you need answered. Drawings, a draft specification or a survey report can go with it.
We need a little more before we can send that: the organisation, your name, an email address and a phone number, the postcode of the roof (or tick Several sites), and what is happening with the roof.
Please check the postcode of the roof: it should have letters and numbers in it.
Please take the link out of your message - photos can be attached with this form.
Sorry, that did not send. What you wrote is still here, so press send again when you have a signal. If it will not go, ring 07593 196505 or email office@pluvian.uk.
That has come through a few times already. If the first one did not arrive, ring us instead or email office@pluvian.uk and we will pick it up from there.
Looking at your roof or your documents and pricing the work is free. A written condition survey with testing carries a fee, agreed before the visit and taken off the price of the work if you go ahead.
No specification yet? That's fine. We can start by looking at the roof and working out the right route.
